Brown, Donald, Corporal, No. 34132, Machine Gun Corps, only son of Colin Brown, 10 Craigpark Drive, Dennistoun, Glasgow, by his wife Jessie, daughter of Archibald McKay, late of Easdale; born Glasgow, 11th September 1897; educated Whitehill Higher Grade School there; was a Clerk on the Caledonian Railway; enlisted in December 1914; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 14th July 1916 and was killed in action 4th October following. A comrade wrote: “Your son was the most honourable and straightforward chap I ever met, and this was thought by most of the fellows who came in contact with him . . . I could write and tell you thousands of things that would make your heart swell with pride, but it gives pain as well as esteem.” Unmarried.
