For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in organising the defence line of the battalion. On one occasion, finding that the enemy were penetrating a gap on the left flank, he collected some runners and signallers and by an immediate counter-attack ejected the enemy and restored the position. His quick grasp of the situation and splendid example of courage undoubtedly prevented what might have been a dangerous encircling movement by the enemy.

At Larnach Hospital, Hove, on 7th February from wounds received 21st October 1918, after four years’ service, Captain S. B. McKinley, M.C., Adjutant 12th Battalion, The Royal Scots. Funeral from 21 Onslow Square, Dennistoun, Glasgow at 2.30, Tuesday 11th inst.
