MacLaren, James Algie, Private, No. 290497, Lewis Gun Section, 10th (Service) Battalion, The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), eldest son of James Anderson Maclaren, 117 Alexandra Park Street, Dennistoun, Glasgow; born Glasgow 7th April 1899, educated Whitehill Higher Grade School there and was subsequently apprenticed as an Engineer; joined the 8th Battalion, The Scottish Rifles as a Drummer, 3rd July 1915; transferred to the 10th Battalion; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 6th March 1917 and was killed in action 24th April 1917, being shot by a sniper while advancing with a Lewis Gun against Cavalry Farm. Buried at Guemappe, south-east of Arras.
