Scotsman, 27th January 1916. ‘Biographical Notes – Thurso Minister’s Son Killed’

Official information has been received that Lieutenant Frank Soutar, attached 2nd Black Watch, has been killed in action. Lieutenant Soutar was the second son of the Rev. Alex. Soutar, First United Free Church, Thurso and formerly of Springburn, Glasgow. He was for some time engaged in banking in Canada. He returned home about two years ago to join his uncles in business in Dundee. Shortly after the outbreak of the war he was granted a commission in the Black watch having previously undergone training in the Officer’s Training Corps. The Rev. Mr. Soutar has two other sons serving in the Army.
