William Smith Blackadder – age 21 – Pilot Officer/Wireless Operator/Air Gunner (134028)

18 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

William was commissioned from Flight Sergeant (746937) in July 1942. His Blenheim bomber took off from RAF Wattisham in Suffolk on an intruder mission but crashed near Oldenburg in Germany. He was buried in the Russian PoW Cemetery at Vechta but was re-interred at Sage in September 1947. (Source: London Gazette 15/12/1942 p.5507, aircrewremembered.com & CWGC)
