Ernest McClure Kippen, Distinguished Flying Cross – age 23 – Pilot Officer/Navigator (172900) 101 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Ernest was commissioned from Sergeant (1560864) on 3 March 1944 and was awarded the DFC on 29 March 1944. His Lancaster bomber took off from RAF Ludford Magna in Lincolnshire for a raid on Nurnberg but crashed near Gemund and Ernest was buried there. He was re-interred in Rheinberg in June 1947.
