James Campbell McLeish, Distinguished Flying Cross – age 24 – Pilot Officer/Wireless Operator (170615) 97 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

James was commissioned from Flight Sergeant (995665) in December 1943 and was awarded a DFC. His Lancaster bomber took off from RAF Bourn in Cambridgeshire for a raid on Stuttgart but crashed at Zilhausen. He was buried in Balingen Cemetery but was re-interred at Durnbach in August 1948.
